A Big Pain in my Wallet

I'll start out by saying that we had a great weekend despite the Mavs losing on Friday night. But they redeemed themselves last night and are dead even yet again. Hope they can get in gear and continue playing like they were most of last night's game! I also did some shopping this weekend which is always fun and therapeutic! :)

Anyways, the title of my blog has to do with the fact that I'm very bitter about how much it costs to go to the dentist these days. I had NO IDEA. My whole life I have gone to a dentist in my town in Florida that was friends with my dad so we never had to pay for dental care. I never had any cavities, never had any problems. So I waited a little longer than I should between visit due to not being home in awhile except at Christmas when he wasn't working, and I decided I needed to bite the bullet and go ahead and get a checkup on my teeth. I picked out a provider that was in-network with my dental insurance through work and headed in this morning at 8 am.

Well, they did a bunch of really fancy x-rays, and they have some super HIGH TECH equipment. They checked my teeth and the dentist came and told me I have 3 tiny cavities but that he would need to scrape them out and do a small filling. I also apparently have tartar buildup (I hate flossing and my dad also has problems with tartar so I guess it's hereditary). Needless to say, I have to have a "deep cleaning" also known as a periodontal scaling to alleviate some of it and to make it so that my gums don't get in trouble further. This scares me although they have all this high tech stuff so I think she said it was ultrasonic waves and would only take an hour and I have to go on Saturday for that and in June for the fillings. Ugh!

To top it all off, I hate the fact that it is so EXPENSIVE! Even with insurance it's quite more than I thought it would be, but I know that I definitely DON'T want gum disease because that can later cause all kinds of other problems in the long run and you lose your teeth and all that mess. So I know it needs to be done but WHY must it cost so much!!! So I'm a little disenchanted with the dentist today which previously had been a good experience for me. And please let me know if you've ever had this periodontal scraping business because I'm really scared and want to know more....I'm making Austin come with me on Saturday to help ease my fear! :)

Hope you all had a good weekend and have a good evening! Going to need to catch up on my sleep tonight!
