Healthy Baby Boy
We went to the pediatrician this morning for Cooper's two-week checkup. My mother-in-law took us because I'm still not allowed to drive. Cooper did well although he was hungry by the time we got there because he woke up last night at 3:30 and 6:30 and by 9:30 he was hungry again! But we managed to get him home and back on his usual schedule. The pediatrician said he's going through a growth spurt right now (usually occurs between day 10-14 and lasts for about a week) so this might be a tough week with broken sleep, but I'm lucky to have such a good baby so that I can get through it.
Cooper has regained his birth weight plus a few ounces (he weighed 9 pounds, 4 ounces this morning) and gained 1/2 inch (he's 23 inches now). His height-to-weight ratio is in the 55th percentile and average. He just weighs more than most babies his age because he's also a lot longer than most babies his age! It made me so happy to see that on the scale because that reaffirms that our nursing is working and that is getting enough even though the past couple of days, he's been hungrier than usual especially at night (growth spurt). I'm going to go on Friday to get a pump to introduce a bottle occasionally so that he can get used to that before I go back to work and also for the occasional time when Austin and I go out without him and we don't want to rush back real quick to meet his feeding schedule.
His heart sounds great and everything else was good, so we had a good report this morning. We go back again on May 15th for his two month checkup where he will get a ton of shots, but at least I'll feel more comfortable about him being out in public places once he gets those. Plus he and I are going to Florida to visit my family on the 20th and Austin will come the 26th for the long weekend until the 30th, and with all of the germs on planes, I'm really glad that he will be all immunized before that!
Other than that, things are going well. I survived my first morning without any help, and Cooper and I are getting along well on our own with help from Austin in the evenings and help from Austin's mom when I need it. I was just VERY sleepy this morning, but luckily after we got home from the doctor and fed him and put him down, I went to sleep too so I'm feeling a little better now. :) Hope you all are having a good day - talk to you later, alligators!
